A unique Nantucket style home, that incorporates classic features with energy efficiency, this home incorporates local materials, beach themes, and cutting edge technologies. The result is a home that is appealing, and energy efficient but does not compromise on comfort.
In keeping with the beach theme, locally manufactured river rock materials were used as an alternative to traditional siding on the front of the home. This material was also used in the construction of the living room fireplace, creating a visual consistency between exterior and interior.
Recycled, locally sourced wood materials were used including the cedar shakes, fireplace mantel and pantry doors. To maximise the use of recycled and local materials, 100 year old barn timbers were obtained from a local saw mill by the builder and handcrafted into pantry doors, fireplace mantel, Master Bedroom/en suite door, and ensuite shelving, to create a unique appearance.
A heat recovery ventilation system with upgraded heat pump for reduced energy consumption combined with comfort and health benefits was installed. The strategic placement of sun tunnels and a skylight allows sufficient light to the areas they service, reducing energy costs, while concurrently adding to the ambience. Energy savings are enhanced by the installed HRV system.
The kitchen was designed to achieve a unique balance of the rustic beach theme, energy efficient features and recycled materials. All appliances are Energy Star rated, appliances are smartphone controlled, and the kitchen is designed for ease of use and ergonomic efficiency.
The home features underfloor heating, and there are no stairs or steps inside or out, providing full mobility access throughout. This home combines both rustic and modern energy efficient features, with convenience and comfort.
