This extensive remodelling and renovation project was designed to address the clients desires to transform an unused basement into a practical living/working space to meet family’s entertainment, work and health needs. The result is a bespoke recreation area including games room, wet bar exercise room and washroom.
The floorplan design was carefully crafted to include wet bar, bathroom, exercise room, office, music room and storage space within the 1,200 square footprint. Soundproofing and insulation was added to the floor/walls in both the office and music room, while recycled barn boards were used extensively throughout including the bar and wainscotting feature.
The barn door was custom crafted by the contractor using recycled lumber creating a rustic feel to complement the basement decor. Due to the size and weight of the door, hardware was reinforced and custom made. Existing kitchen cabinets and countertops were reused for the basement bar while a hand crafted dartboard is located in the family/recreation room.
Energy saving features include a low flush toilet, LED light fixtures, while locally sourced/recycled materials and fumeless paint were used in the project greatly reducing the energy footprint.
The bathroom features hand made shelving and mirror frame, and venting/ gas hookups have been roughed in for future furnace and/or hot water on demand installation.
